Sometimes Moms Have Long Days

I am feeling so overwhelmed with life right now. Hunter is going on his 5th day of being sick, which means that I have had very little sleep. Jesse was on the east coast on Sunday and Monday. It's the 1st of the month, which means that work is crazy in the accounting world. It just seems like sometimes there are times when a mom can't get a break.

Here's what yesterday looked like (and so far today has not been much better):

3am - Hunter woke up screaming because he was so congested that he could hardly breathe. He didn't go back to sleep.

4:45am - My alarm goes off, time to get ready for work. Hunter wasn't happy with that and proceeded to throw a tantrum until I was done getting ready.

6am - Get Hunter and Henry all packed up in the car and leave for work.

6:45am - Drop Hunter off with Grandpa

7am-12pm Work

12-12:45pm Lunch

12:45-4:15pm Work

4:30pm Doctor appointment for Hunter. The doctor says that he has a bad head cold, the beginning of an ear infection, and 3 of his eye teeth are coming in. He said to expect for him to have a rough week and give him Tylenol for the fever and pain.

5:30pm Feed Hunter dinner and get changed for the gym

6-7pm Crossfit

7-8pm Clean the kitchen, play with Hunter, get him ready for bed, and then put Hunter down.

9pm - Hunter wakes up screaming and doesn't fall back asleep until midnight.

12:30am Jesse gets home from his trip

4:45am Time to start it all over again

I'm sure all mom's feel like it at sometime or another, but it just seems like life is going too fast for me. It seems like several days can go by without having a minute to relax or not go a million miles a minute. It's days like these that make me wonder if I am doing the right thing by working full time. Am I letting life take me in too many directions that I'm not getting enough quality time in with my son?

And then I realize that only a couple days a week are like this. Jesse is not always gone, Hunter is not always sick, I get more sleep than this 99% of the time, and I have 3 day weekends every week that I get to spend with my family. I just need to take a deep breath and not sweat the small stuff.

  1. I hope your week gets better and that you get some rest. I know for me, things always seem worse when I'm tired. Praying for y'all!

  2. I know it can be hard... but I can guarantee that it wont be any easier being at home either. Both have ups and downs. Sometimes I dream about working and being amongst adults all day... the grass isn't any greener on this side.
You'll feel better when you get some sleep! Hope it comes soon. I'll be praying that God gives you an extra boost of energy today!

  3. Oh, Steph - I am so with you in the long days....we have had some very LONG months with Corban not sleeping well at night and it makes life so much more difficult when you don't get sleep! Know you are a FABULOUS wife and mom and take time for yourself when you can - even if it's just 5 minutes!!!! Hang in there!

Jesse is active duty Air Force and is originally from southern Minnesota. He has also managed to become a follower of just about every hobby known to man (which drives his wife crazy!).

Henry was born on July 4, 2007. His hobbies include playing with his squeaker toys, barking a little girls, dock jumping, going to the dog park, and being spoiled rotten by his grandparents.
